About Adam

Adam Sud is a behavioral wellness & nutrition expert, international speaker, and the founder and CEO of Plant Based for Positive Change, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing research and understanding of how nutrition impacts mental health and addiction. In 2020 he ran the first controlled research trial to investigate the effects of plant-based nutrition intervention on early addiction recovery outcomes. He currently coaches individuals using nutrition, the science of behavior change, and evolutionary psychology to understand and achieve their personal mental health and wellness goals.

Sud has studied the use of nutrition in disease reversal under the mentorships of leading plant-based physicians, such as Dr. Matt Lederman and Dr. Alona Pulde of the WholeFoods Global Health Center, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn of the Heart Disease Reversal Program at the Cleveland Clinic, and Cyrus Khambatta, Ph.D. of Mastering Diabetes. In 2015, he received certification from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies of Cornell University and the CHEK Institute Holistic Lifestyle Coach Certification. In 2020, Plant Based for Positive Change conducted The INFINITE Study: Pilot Research Exploring Plant-Based Nutrition in Treatment for Substance Use Disorders which is the first study to explore how nutrition might influence early recovery outcomes, due to the understanding that the standard treatment model for substance use disorders (SUDs) rarely incorporates a dietary intervention. Early addiction treatment outcomes showed modest but important effects of whole food plant-based nutrition and suggest value in further exploration of its use in SUD treatment and all participants experienced positive trends toward psychosocial health improvements.

Sud’s coaching program uses nutrition, the science of behavior change, and evolutionary psychology to fundamentally shift people’s ability to move in the direction they have always wanted to go in their health and wellness journey. The curriculum aims to help people better understand the mechanisms of compulsions and behavior change, as well as to understand the science of nutrition as it relates to one's unique goals. His ultimate goal is to change people’s perception of nutrition, specifically in how they view and utilize plant-based nutrition, and evolve the way experts care for people with addiction and mental illness. He aims to teach his clients how to organize their environment so that success becomes easier and repeatable.

In 2012 Sud was personally struggling with multiple addictions, serious chronic diseases, and mental health disorders. His life nearly came to an end when he attempted suicide by drug overdose. With the help of treatment and the implementation of a plant-based diet, he began a journey that led to the reversal of his chronic disease conditions, the cancellation of all medications, and the lowering of his weight from Class III Obesity levels from 350lbs to a healthy 175lbs. He is currently 10 years sober. He served as lead insulin resistance and food addiction coach for Mastering Diabetes from 2017 to 2022, a program that focuses on reversing insulin resistance to master type 1, Type 1.5, pre-diabetes, and type 2 diabetes using plant-based nutrition. He served as a clinical health coach for Whole Foods Market's Global Wellness Center at the company headquarters from 2017-2020 and served as a Holistic Lifestyle Coach at Whole Recovery from 2015 to 2018. Sud has worked in mental health and behavioral health treatment centers as a group facilitator, using plant-based nutrition to strengthen recovery and relapse prevention.

Sud is an international speaker for the health and wellness movement and addiction recovery movement and has presented at some of the largest health and wellness events: Whole Foods Market Tribal Gathering, The Food Revolution Summit, Plant-Stock, Nexus Summit, and many more. His story and expertise have been featured in various books, documentaries, magazines, and podcasts, including Men's Health Magazine, The Whole Foods Diet Book by John Mackey, Disease Reversal Hope Documentary, The Proof Podcast, and The Darin Olien Show.
